HBKU's TII Signs MoU with Qatar Olympic Committee

Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Hamad bin Khalifa University’s Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at consolidating cooperation between the two institutions in the field of translation, interpreting, revision and editing. The signing ceremony was held yesterday at TII, housed in the Al-Awsaj building in Education City. 

Mr. Fisal Al-Mansoori, Public Relations and Marketing Director, signed on behalf of QOC, while Dr Amal Al-Malki, Executive Director of the Institute, signed for TII.

Mr. Al-Mansoori delivered a statement following the signing highlighting the value of this collaboration with TII, designed to assure the quality of QOC’s various written documents along with its related federations and committees in Arabic and English. During international events, TII will offer their support in other languages such as French, Spanish, etc. It will also provide top quality interpreting during the training courses, press conferences and other events organized by QOC.

Mr. Al-Mansoori said, “We are proud to see TII exerting valuable efforts towards organizing the translation and interpreting sectors in Qatar and hopefully in the Arab region, thus enhancing the standard and quality of written publications and interpreting services. We are looking forward to contributing to the success of TII’s mission while benefiting ourselves from a better quality for our language productions and events.”

Dr Amal Al- Malki, TII’s Executive Director, stated on this occasion: “We are happy to sign this MoU with the Qatar Olympic Committee, which emphasizes our shared goals in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. TII’s Professional Services Center and QOC will be working closely to promote “Sports Translation and Interpreting” as a new field of specialization in the translation industry. We are delighted to be able to participate in a movement aimed at creating an environment that is appreciative of sport in all its forms, and dedicated to the successful hosting of many major events in Qatar.”

“The Professional Services Center in TII aims to build capacity in the fields of translation and interpreting within Qatar through its professional level training courses, and setting quality standard for translation. TII will also participate in creating a sports terminology word bank for Qatar,” said Mr. Asaad Kahlout, Director of the Professional Services Center at TII.

The Memorandum of Understanding outlines the cooperative framework between QOC and TII, designed to facilitate exchange in the areas of translation and sports, and affirms the willingness of both parties to achieve their common objectives. It also enumerates the various fields of collaboration: interpreting, translation, editing and proofreading, auditing and certification, as well as establishing a memory database dedicated to sports terminology.
