English Language Workshop  10 May, 2020 2:00-2:30 pm

The workshop will start by talking about birthdays and what we usually do on these special days and how people celebrate their birthdays in the UK/US.

This will take us to our topic which is ‘At a Restaurant’ as many people go out for a meal to celebrate their birthdays. We will discuss how to order food and the focus will be on understanding a menu and food related items (soup, salad, mineral/sparkling water, decaf espresso, dessert etc.) and then ordering the bill and paying by cash or card.

Listening: An audio or video will play (depending on the internet quality) and the students will later be asked to fill in the gaps shown on the shared screen.

Reading: A menu will be shown on the PowerPoint slides and the students will be asked to find the meanings of the food/drink items they don’t know.

Speaking: The participants will then be asked to order some of the items using: I’d like… /Can I have….?Etc.

Writing: The participants will be asked to write a short paragraph about what they usually do on their birthdays (simple present) or what they did on their last birthday (simple past) and will be asked to email their paragraph or send it on WhatsApp for the teacher’s feedback.

The workshop will target elementary levels (A2 and B1)
