HBKU’S TII Welcomes its First Batch of MA Students

The Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII) held a student orientation event yesterday, welcoming its first batch of Masters students in its first MA program in Translation Studies (MATS).

Students were warmly greeted with a welcome note from TII’s Executive Director, Dr. Amal Mohammed Al-Malki followed by welcome notes from the Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Moneera Al-Ghadir and MATS faculty members. Students were then given a full-fledged tour of TII’s new quarters in Awsaj Academy in Education City and its cutting-edge facilities, showcasing its translation and interpreting labs, self-study labs, and multimedia labs, as well as the lecture and seminar rooms and equipped with latest Audiovisuals and software. 

As TII’s MA students begin their first day of classes today, both students and faculty expressed high level of excitement, enthusiasm and dedication as they look forward to building a sophisticated platform for meaningful interactions between them, and to contributing to the objective of establishing a knowledge-based community. 

TII currently offers a Master degree in Translation Studies, equipping students with both theoretical and practical translation competencies in the areas of business and commerce, science and technology, as well as literary and media translation.

A part of Hamad bin Khalifa University, TII is set to become an international center of excellence for the study of translation, interpreting and languages. TII offers a comprehensive array of related translation and language activities, unique to the GCC region, encompassing postgraduate degrees in translation and interpreting, high-level language training, and quality translation and interpreting services. 

Led by a distinguished international team of faculty and staff, TII consists of a Postgraduate Studies section, a Research Center, a Language Center and a Professional Services section. It organizes a wide range of international and local events throughout the year, many of which are open to the public.
