Ibrahim Albuainain
MA in Translation Studies
Class of 2017
Ibrahim Al Buainain is a first year student enrolled in the MA in Translation Studies program. Before enrolling as a student at TII, Ibrahim earned a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management from Indiana State University in the United States, as well as an Aviation Security Management Diploma from the International Air Transport Association. He is currently employed at the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority as a Senior Aviation Security Inspector. The main tasks of Ibrahim’s job involve conducting oversight activities such as inspections and audits, as well as developing aviation security regulations and policies in both English and Arabic. Ibrahim also reviews security documents submitted by local or foreign stakeholders. Given the nature of his work as well as his aspiration to develop his proficiency in the English and Arabic languages, Ibrahim was attracted by the field of translation studies, and he considered it as an opportunity to both learn something new, and also to challenge himself. Ibrahim has also identified the lack of specialized Qatari translators in the nation’s work force, and so he has chosen to pursue an MA degree in translation studies. When asked why he chose to pursue his degree at TII, Ibrahim explained that TII “attracts students by catering to the needs of each individual. Though I hesitated when submitting my application, I quickly realized after my first semester that I made the best choice. TII is an exceptional place for anyone seeking a high-quality education.”
Ibrahim maintains a healthy work, life, and study balance through time management, and by dedicating time to focus on each area. He strongly believes in human potential and the power of creativity. He mentioned that “aviation and translation are both very dynamic sectors that change rapidly, and this is what motivates me to be proactive and to stay engaged in what I do and the work I produce. When we believe in ourselves we will definitely achieve what we might have thought of as difficult or impossible.” Outside of his work commitments and his studies, Ibrahim is an artist and owns his own personal art studio. Though his art is not yet on the market due to other commitments, he hopes to focus on his art in the future, and to travel as much as possible.
