The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), through the Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII), has partnered with Qatar National Library on its latest children’s art exhibition, “Reesha - We Welcome the World to Qatar 2022TM”. The exhibition features 32 paintings of the country’s World Cup stadiums, created by school pupils under the guidance of the Qatari artist Maryam Al Mulla. 

Students in the Master of Arts in Audiovisual Translation (MAAT) program delivered by CHSS contributed multisensory  features that enrich the exhibition and ensure it is fully inclusive and accessible to all. Audio-descriptive guides in Arabic and English, high-contrast raised images, and descriptions in braille, help visitors with vision impairment experience the paintings on show through  touch and sound. 

CHSS’s contribution to “Reesha” demonstrates the role of its innovative MAAT program in training specialists in the mediation of audiovisual texts, both for sensory-impaired audiences and foreign language viewers, and is validated by the University of Geneva. TII’s and CHSS’s previous and ongoing social engagement initiatives showcase individual and collective efforts to enhance knowledge, find solutions for real problems, and improve the lives of all people. 

The Reesha exhibition forms part of celebrating the Qatar - MENASA Year of Culture 2022 and runs at the Library until December 31.
