HBKU’s TII to Hold Specialized Workshop
The Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII), part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is set to host a three-day workshop, SDL Trados and Translation Project Management, for the local community on May 6. Both beginners and mid-career project managers and translators can benefit from this workshop with elements ranging from introductory modules up to more advanced features of SDL Trados Studio - a computer-assisted translation software suite. Registration for the workshop is currently open.
The interactive training course is designed to educate participants on a full project development cycle from project creation, translation and review, sign-off, up to project finalization. Nada Al-Mahmeed, acting director of the Translation and Training Center within TII said: “Our upcoming training module is designed to deliver practical knowledge in translation project management – a great area of interest to the professional community in Qatar. We have identified SDL as the market-leading software in the field of translation management and firmly believe that it will be a great asset to every project management and translation professional.”
TII’s offerings address the increasing local market demand for modules that cater to adults in relevant fields. Qatar’s society is diverse and translation, in particular, bridges cross-cultural communication needs and is virtually indispensable to the local economy.
With this in mind, the SDL Trados Studio course specifically acknowledges the need for the development of advanced project management skills in a progressively globalized world. Growing links to the global markets of Asia and Europe have led to a continuous increase in the demand for project management in all areas of business. TII is central in developing a well-educated base of local talent to cater to these market demands.
The course will be delivered at Education City’s Liberal Arts and Science (LAS) Building from May 6 to 9, 2018 and will be conducted in both English and Arabic. Course timings are conveniently set for 4:00 to 7:00 pm on all three days to accommodate the participants’ busy professional schedules.
Registration forms can be completed at tii.qa/community. This upcoming workshop is one of many professional course offerings by HBKU aimed at enriching the local educational landscape and providing Qatar’s community with access to a variety of developmental initiatives.
