Dr. Hendrik Kockaert's Bio

Dr. Hendrik J. Kockaert is Professor and Director of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University – CHSS. Previously he was Campus Dean at KU Leuven, in Antwerp (Belgium), where he liaised with the EU, the GCC, the UN, and with the EMT (European Masters in Translation) and the EMCI (European Masters in Conference Interpreting) networks with a view to planning curricula in line with internationally benchmarked requirements expressed by translators and interpreters associations, international institutions and public services. His areas of research are Terminology, Legal Translation and Translation Technology, and supervises research projects and PhDs on Terminology, Translation Technology and Translation Quality Assurance.
As a certified ECQA (European Certification and Qualification Association) trainer and Job Role Committee Provider, he develops online courses in terminology (Certified Terminology Management). He is also a course developer and a training consultant for the Pan African Masters in Conference Interpretation and Translation (PAMCIT) consortium.
Before his career in Belgium and in Qatar, he was the Head of Department of Modern Languages at the University of Swaziland (1991 – 1999).
