This workshop introduces trainees to the basics of financial translation. The training focuses on developing a set of strategies and techniques, as well as the use of multilingual terminology resources.

About the Leader/Instructor
Dr. Hisham Ali

Expert Translator and Educator

Dr. Hisham Ali brings over 15 years of diverse translation experience across various sectors, including business, finance, communication, media, tourism, and publishing. Holding a PhD in Translation Studies from KU Leuven (University of Leuven) in Belgium, Dr. Ali merges academic knowledge with practical expertise.

Professional Experience: Dr. Ali’s career spans a range of industries, where he has honed his skills in both translation and editing. His experience includes working at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Dubai, one of the Big Four accounting firms, where he handled complex translation tasks at their Middle East headquarters. He gained substantial editing expertise through his roles at the Communication Directorate at Qatar Foundation (QF) and Dar Al-Farouk for Cultural Investments in Cairo. This editing expertise was further enhanced by advanced training at Al Jazeera Network in Qatar and The Economist Group in London.

Academic and Research Work: Dr. Ali is a Research Fellow at KU Leuven's Department of Arabic Studies. His research explores the intersections of literature, translation, media, and nationalism in the Arab world, with a particular focus on Egypt, Lebanon, and Qatar. His scholarly work has been published in journals like National Identities, Pragmatics, Babel, and Translation in Society, among others. Dr. Ali has also shared his research through presentations at institutions such as the University of Leeds, University of Leuven, University of Nottingham, and the Institute of Culture Studies and Theatre History in Vienna. Beyond academia, he has contributed articles to Arabic-language news outlets such as Arabic Post (formerly known as HuffPost Arabi).

Accreditations and Memberships: Dr. Ali is a sworn legal translator accredited by the UAE Ministry of Justice and a member of KU Leuven’s Centre for Translation Studies (CETRA).

Workshops and Training: Dr. Ali also offers workshops and training programs, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience to help professionals refine their translation skills.
