French Course Descriptions for Youth and Children

Spoken by over 274 million people and recognized by 84 countries, including Qatar, French is a global language of culture, travel, and opportunity. It plays a major role in fields like art, science, diplomacy, fashion, and business, and is the 4th most used language on the internet.

Learning French from a young age gives children advantages, personally, academically, and professionally. It also enhances travel experiences and opens doors to global opportunities.

Our fun and engaging classes are tailored to each age group, following the CEFR framework. All of our French classes are conducted in a fun-filled atmosphere with activities, games and learning tools appropriate for the children’s ages and follow an age-related, customized children’s curriculum. All our instructors have experience teaching children and are well aware of the specifics of children’s cognitive development at the various ages.

In the “Beginner 1 part 1”, children/teenagers learn basic communication skills. They will be able to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at meeting immediate needs in any part of the French-speaking world everything related to their own world, how to greet, say their names and ages, introduce their close family, talk about their likes and dislikes, favorite foods and animals. 
They practice their listening and speaking skills using various activities, games and relevant materials in order to start understanding the language in its cultural context and engage in short interactions.  

Prerequisites: No prior knowledge of French is expected.

Instructors bring relevant authentic material to the class 

Children will be able to start using the basic skills, they acquired in the previous level. Students will be able to use higher numbers. They will be able to form sentences with negative structure, expressing that they don’t want something, or don’t agree to a special topic.

Students will be able to express wishes and demands and their preferences. They will talk about what they wear and what others wear; they can name different types of clothes. They can describe clothes in a very simple way.

They practice the listening and speaking skills using various activities and games and relevant materials in order to understand the language in its cultural context and engage in short interactions.

They are also familiar with very basic grammatical features, like the French articles, possessive pronouns and the French cases.

The “Beginner 2 level” for children is a course that reviews and continues the material children have already covered during the level Beginner 1 of French and goes further. In this course, children will acquire basic vocabulary to talk about leisure activities and will be able to describe their daily routine at school and at home; they will learn how to tell the time, to describe people and talk about their own town and district and how to locate things in space.

At the end of the course, children will be able to answer simple questions about themselves and have basic interactions. They practice the listening and speaking skills using various activities, games and relevant materials in order to start understanding the language in its cultural context and engage in short interactions.

The “Beginner 2 level”for children is a course that reviews and continues the materials children have already covered during the level Beginner 1 of French and goes further. In this course, children will acquire basic vocabulary to talk about leisure activities and will be able to describe their daily routine at school and at home; they will learn how to tell the time, to describe people, talk about their own town and district and how to locate things in space. At the end of the course, children will be able to answer simple questions about themselves and have basic interactions. The class is conducted in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere appropriate for their age. They practice the listening and speaking skills using various activities and games and relevant materials in order to start understanding the language in its cultural context and engage in short interactions.  

The “Beginner 2 level” is already the final level to complete A1 – related to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. After having completed beginner 2 part 2, teenagers have the option to switch to the adult program and join one of the Pre-Intermediate (A2) courses for adults. Or they can continue with the Teenager program and start the Pre-Intermediate level there.

In this level, students focus on topics like shopping, clothes, and the weather. They learn vocabulary related to clothes, sizes, and shopping phrases. They practice how to ask for prices, try things on, and talk about their preferences. The lessons also cover weather expressions and how to describe the weather in different seasons. Additionally, students learn how to talk about plans and make arrangements with others using simple future expressions. The goal is to improve conversational skills related to shopping, the weather, and making plans.

At the end of the pre-intermediate course, your daughter or son will be able to understand sentences and commonly used expressions associated with topics directly related to her/his direct circumstances (e.g. personal information or information about her/his family, shopping, work, immediate surroundings). She/He can make her/himself understood in simple routine situations, dealing with a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and common topics. She/he can describe her/his background and education, immediate surroundings and other things associated with immediate needs in a simple way.

In these lessons, students learn to talk about their past experiences, holidays, and travel. They focus on the past tense, especially the perfect tense, to describe events that have already happened. Vocabulary related to vacations, destinations, and activities is introduced, and students practice discussing where they’ve been, what they’ve done, and how they felt. They also learn how to express wishes and plans for the future. These lessons help students improve their ability to talk about past experiences, travel, and express future intentions in conversations.

Instructors bring relevant authentic material to the class 

 

In these lessons, students focus on topics such as health, travel, and cities, plans and studies. The lessons also cover sports and physical activities, teaching vocabulary for different sports and how to talk about preferences and experiences. Additionally, students practice using modal verbs like, must and should to give advice or express obligations. The focus is on improving communication skills related to health, sports, and giving/receiving advice in everyday situations.

In this intermediate French course, students focus on everyday topics like health, activities, school, and sports. They expand their vocabulary related to illness, science, medical advice, and physical activities, while learning to express preferences, experiences, and obligations using modal verbs like must and should. The course strengthens communication skills through short texts, dialogues, and interactive activities, helping learners build confidence in speaking, understanding, and giving advice in real-life situations.

At this level, children refine their fluency and accuracy through complex topics like the environment, media, and cultural traditions. They learn to express opinions, compare ideas, and understand longer texts and conversations. The course focuses on mastering grammar, expanding vocabulary, and engaging in real-life communication through debates, role-plays, and creative projects.
