Overview:

Our 'Translator as Rewriter' workshop is tailored to meet a growing demand in the market, where English often serves as the source language. Its primary objective is to empower participants with the capacity to create engaging Arabic content inspired by English, emphasizing a focus on the intended audience rather than pursuing a direct translation approach. This workshop is meticulously designed for professionals in creative fields, including media, marketing, advertising, and public relations, going beyond traditional translation. Serving as both a foundation and a practical roadmap, it equips participants with the tools to initiate their journey towards delivering Arabic content that remains uninfluenced by English, providing real-world applicability and impact.

Presentations: Introduction, Techniques, Applications, Beyond Translation Crafting Content Assignments: Real-Text Exercises, Hands-On Projects 
Exercises and Quizzes: Interactive Learning

Methodology:

The workshop methodology is thoughtfully crafted to provide a dynamic and practical learning experience. Over four interactive sessions, we focus on the essential skills of rewriting, especially vital for translators in creative industries, and transcreation, prioritizing hands-on practice and real-world applications. Through real-life examples, participants gain insights into the challenges that often hinder the creation of authentic Arabic content, and they are equipped with practical techniques to overcome these obstacles. The curriculum covers a diverse range of text types, including those commonly found in media, marketing, advertising, and other creative industries. Our approach is distinctly less theoretical and more practical, emphasizing the direct application of skills. Throughout the workshop, interaction between participants and the instructor is encouraged, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

About the Leader/Instructor
Abdullah Zaki

Abdullah Zaki is an experienced professional with an extensive track record spanning over 14 years in translation, editing, and writing across a diverse spectrum of fields, notably in public relations, marketing, and publishing. 
Currently, he serves as Arabic Content Lead at a renowned international CEO advisory firm, where he has been responsible for overseeing the Arabic-language media and promotional content for a number of prominent organizations and entities in Qatar, including the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Qatar Museums, Northwestern University in Qatar, University College London Qatar, Sidra Medicine, Vodafone, Aspire Zone, Hyundai, and Maersk Oil, among other ministries, government agencies, and private companies. 


Prior to this, Zaki worked as a translator and editor within the publishing department of the Communications Directorate at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development where he contributed to the translation and editing of dozens of publications for Qatar Foundation's "Telegraph" newspaper, "The Foundation" magazine, and other Qatar Foundation publications. 
Zaki's journey has also seen him serve as a translator and digital content developer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he collaborated with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and other government entities. 
Furthermore, his career includes a role as a translator for Jarir Bookstore, where he enriched the translated books department.
His academic qualifications underscore his dedication to his craft, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Languages and Translation with honors from Al-Azhar University in Cairo. Additionally, he holds a diploma in digital media from the American University in Cairo and is currently in pursuit of a Master of Arts degree in Audio-Visual Translation Studies at Hamad bin Khalifa University.
