The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad bin Khalifa University invites applications for an Admissions Officer to coordinate admissions activities and provide support & information to stakeholders within the College, University, and with prospective applicants

Key Result Areas:

  • Coordinate all student recruitment and admission processes within the College
  • Track and manage student inquiry database & maintain a student filing system for all applicants
  • Serve as an information source to students, faculty and others regarding Registration/admissions policies and procedures
  • Act as a focal point to support academic departments, and college staff in the admissions process
  • Responsible for processing scholarship applications
  • Serve as a liaison between the College and the Provost’s Office for the admission and enrolment of students to College degree programs
  • Process all applicants through the Student Information System and ensure that all applicant data is updated
  • Follow up with applicants regarding missing materials, incomplete documents and other aspects of the application to ensure timely completion and review of the files
  • Maintain accurate and timely admission and demographic data regarding number of applicants, admits and enrolled students
  • Download and review admission materials from the Student Information System  and ensure it is accurately stored on the shared drive
  • Work with academic department on preparing entrance tests, including their schedules, supervising duties and rendering results
  • Work with academic department on writing the program prospectus in English and Arabic
  • Offer consultation to students regarding results of entrance test/application steps involved
  • Handle the registration, scheduling of admissions exams dates and times, and all other functions of the admissions office
  • Prepare for the annual student orientation, to orient and familiarize newly admitted students of their class rooms, courses and facilities provided
  • Arrange for local and international visits (universities, companies, etc.) to introduce the degree programs and provide information about the admissions process and scholarships
  • Responsible for admitted local and international students’ orientation, and for acting as a focal point with university offices for processing housing and students’ visas
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 2-5 years of relevant full-time experience; preferably in similar Higher Education Institutes
  • Knowledge of the admissions processes, methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and experience in data analysis and developing data driven reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely; Arabic proficiency is an advantage
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad bin Khalifa University invites applications for an Marketing and PR Specialist position to Lead the planning and execution of various communication activities in coordination with HBKU Communications to promote the college’s programs and initiatives, and improve the college’s image.

Key Result Areas:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of CHSS communications sub strategy in line with the overall University Communications strategy
  • Responsible for monitoring CHSS internal and external communications materials in coordination with HBKU communication
  • Work with cross functional & technical teams and utilize available resources to research and measure CHSS’s media coverage, industry trends, and best practices to continuously improve CHSS’ image
  • Maintain positive relationships between CHSS and the public and mass media, including marketing campaigns, press releases, brochures, website and social media content among other print and electronic media channels
  • Develop content for various communications channels and purposes in accordance to the communications procedures and brand guidelines
  • Draft, edit and deliver communication programs and projects including marketing and PR messages in Arabic and English
  • Draft, edit, proofread, and revise marketing, press material, and publications content, including press releases, white papers, executive bios, newsletters, web/social media content, and speaking proposals
  • Copyedit, proofread, and revise translated communication messages by CHSS’s and TII’s Translation and Training Center’s translation team
  • Review and approve translated communication material originated by marketing and PR to ensure that the meaning, tone, and flair of the original message was adequately captured
  • Conduct media outreach campaigns, develop story ideas, prepare briefing materials for CHSS artworks, media interviews, press releases, and public events in coordination with HBKU Communications
  • Initiate research media coverage and industry trends an develop fresh story ideas
  • Develop communication project briefs and maintain the college events calendar
  • Coordinate with CHSS management and HBKU Communications on developing processes, procedures, process optimization, technology and tools that enable CHSS to achieve its goals.
  • Act as a liaison and key focal point between CHSS and HBKU communication, and communication vendors for all assigned communication programs and projects
  • Coordinate press releases, social media, website content and other Marketing and PR-related material with an insight and flair for tailoring of original or translated messages so it has the highest and most positive impact on wide range of audience (locally, regionally, internationally)
  • Create workflows to deliver projects on-time, within budget, and at the highest quality standard
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field & 2-5 years of relevant full-time work experience in communication/marketing, preferably in higher education institutes
  • Experience in proofreading and copyediting in English and Arabic, including managing a team of professionals, vendors, and a large portfolio of services and clients
  • Must demonstrate significant knowledge in the communication field and reasonable knowledge of GCC dialects in general and local dialect & vocabulary in particular.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Good understanding of various marketing activities, methods and tools used in educational institutions and how they are best deployed in a multi-cultural and international environment.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely
  • Proficiency in graphic designing, and design tools MS Office applications
  • Fluency in English and Standard Modern Arabic

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad bin Khalifa University invites applications for an Open-Rank Professorship in Digital Humanities and Societies with an emphasis on cultural studies, digital culture, or media.  The successful candidate will contribute courses, mentoring, advising, and thesis supervision to a recently approved and accredited MA in Digital Humanities and Societies. The MA offers two specialized tracks: a) Digital Humanities, and b) Digital Cultures and Social Studies in the Middle East.  The college seeks candidates who bridge the digital humanities and various social studies, including the study of culture, film and media, journalism, religion, history and philosophy, gender, and geo-politics amongst others.  Applicants with doctoral degrees in digital humanities broadly defined will be given top preference.
